Effect of HNTs and MWCNTs nanotubes on the impact strength and hardness of PMMA denture base

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin is commonly used for the fabrication of a denture base heat curing polymerization. The objective this work to investigate effects using two types nanotube technology: Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) and Multi-walled carbon (MWCNTs), on impact strength (IS), Vickers hardness (VH) PMMA base. composites were fabricated by incorporating powder, 0.5wt% benzoyl peroxide (BPO), fixed at 5wt% HNTs / MWCNTs(5/0, 4.5/0.5, 4/1, 3.5/1.5, 0/5) as powder components. was mixed with liquid (made from 90% methyl (MMA) and10% ethylene glycol dimethyl-acrylate (EGDMA), crosslinking agent). results show that mean significantly increased incorporation HNTs/MWCNTs ratio (4:1 wt%) 10.51 KJ/m2compared unenhanced PMMA. However, Vicker's decreased nanotubes, to17.42kg/mm2. addition MWCNTs matrix improved but not hardness. Therefore, hybrid reinforced composite HNT MWCNT fillers appropriate be high performance prosthodontics applications.
